Toby, an 11-year-old King Charles Spaniel-Poodle mix, has captured the title of Attleboro’s Top Dog, thanks in part to his Hollywood-inspired look and laid-back demeanor. Dressed in stylish sunglasses, Toby’s relaxed posture seemed to win the hearts of the city’s residents, earning him 27 votes in the contest.
Toby’s proud owner, Anthony Duclos, played a key role in his victory by dressing Toby like a celebrity. As a result, Toby earned the coveted license tag #0001 for his top ranking.
In past years, city hall employees were tasked with voting for the top dog, but the process was criticized as “rigged.” To make the contest more transparent, City Clerk Kate Jackson opened voting to all residents of the city this year.
A total of 142 votes were cast, with Toby claiming 27 of them. The remaining 81 votes were divided among several other dogs and even a few cats.
In second place with 18 votes was Kabir, a serious-looking dog owned by Lois Nevers, who will receive license tag #0002. Kabir’s intense gaze and stoic expression made a strong impression.
Taking third place was Josie, owned by Rebecca Santos, with 16 votes. Josie’s adorable head tilt and inquisitive expression earned her the #0003 license tag.
Toby may have stolen the spotlight with his star-like presence, but all the top contenders added their own charm to the competition.
