“South Windsor Dog, Rescued After Being Tied to a Tree, Seeks New Home”

by Doreen Miller

A dog from South Windsor, who was previously rescued after being found tied to a tree, is once again up for adoption, the Tyler Regional Animal Care Shelter (TRACS) announced on Wednesday.

The dog, named Obie, was discovered on April 22, 2024, near the Frank Niederwerfer Wildlife Sanctuary, with a collar tied to a tree branch. Just weeks later, police arrested 26-year-old Janiya Bradford of Manchester, charging her with animal cruelty and unlawfully tethering a dog to a stationary object.

Obie was adopted two days after Bradford’s arrest, and although his original collar read “Kobe” or “Kade,” he was renamed Obie. After spending 60 days at the shelter, he was placed in a new home in May 2024.

However, eight months later, TRACS reported that Obie is now looking for a new family. According to the shelter, Obie was initially adopted by “an amazing family,” but he no longer gets along with smaller pets, especially cats. “He has gone to work and does well with family and friends coming over. Obie has a tendency to be cautious at first with men, but then is in their laps,” the shelter said on Facebook. “He definitely has past trauma and is recommended for a family without small children, small pets, and no cats.”

Obie is now 3 years old, neutered, and up-to-date on vaccinations. TRACS encourages potential adopters who meet Obie’s specific needs to contact the South Windsor Police Department at 860-648-6239 for more information.
