Dog Narrowly Escapes Death After Eating Sausage Filled with Nails Left in Park

In a chilling incident, a dog named Ora narrowly escaped death after consuming a sausage filled with nails during a routine walk with her owner in Dobrzykowice, a village in western Poland. Ora, a dog adopted by the 4 Paws of Wrocław animal rescue group two years ago, was enjoying a peaceful stroll in a local park when she discovered the dangerous sausage left on the road.

After eating the sausage, Ora began howling and vomiting blood, prompting her owner to rush her to a veterinary clinic. Surgeons worked for five hours to remove 12 nails from her stomach. The quick thinking of Ora’s owner and the timely intervention of the veterinary team were credited with saving her life.

The rescue group praised the prompt response, emphasizing that quick action in such cases is critical. “It’s good that the dog’s owner quickly noticed and collected the remaining nails,” the group wrote on Facebook. “In such cases, time is crucial, and only the quick intervention of the night clinic team ensured that the five-hour operation ended successfully.”

Unfortunately, this isn’t an isolated incident. Last year, similar cases occurred in the north of Poland, where two dogs died and three others required emergency treatment after ingesting poisoned sausages. In response, authorities in Krakow launched a “danger map” to track locations where toxic substances had been found in meat left out for dogs.

Following this recent incident, Ora’s owner and the 4 Paws group plan to file a police report, citing potential animal cruelty. Under Polish law, those convicted of animal abuse face up to three years in prison, with sentences up to five years for particularly heinous acts. The authorities are now investigating the case further as concerns about the safety of pets in the area grow. Pet owners in eastern Wrocław are being urged to remain vigilant while walking their dogs.
