Sad End to Three-Month Search for Missing Dog Spikey

by Doreen Miller

The Manson family’s search for their beloved pet dog, Spikey, has tragically come to an end. After three months of relentless searching, the remains of the missing dog were found on Sunday morning when children discovered his distinctive orange harness.

Spikey, a rescue dog, had disappeared from a doggy daycare in Red Bay on November 13. His owner, local veterinarian Colin Manson, spared no effort in the quest to bring him home. This included deploying a sniffer dog, using a heat-seeking drone, and offering a $5,000 reward—later increased to $10,000—for any information leading to Spikey’s whereabouts. Numerous advertisements across TV, radio, and posters around Grand Cayman also supported the search.

Despite the tireless efforts of the family and volunteers, who followed up on every reported sighting, there had been no new leads—until this weekend’s discovery.

Kman Vets confirmed the sad news in a heartfelt social media post, where they shared that Spikey’s remains had been identified via his microchip. The post expressed gratitude to the community for its support, saying, “We were so very hopeful his adventure had taken him elsewhere. After speaking with the neighbors, it turns out his body had been in the area since Christmas. Our hearts are heavy tonight, but we are thankful to have had such a wonderful little dog in our lives. Rest in peace, Spikey. You brought so much joy to us. You were the best.”

The family’s sorrow is shared by many who had followed Spikey’s journey, offering their condolences and support on social media.
