In Thursday night’s episode of First Dates Ireland, dog-loving groomer Michelle from Waterford and fellow canine enthusiast Kevin from Dublin shared an enjoyable evening, but unfortunately, romance wasn’t in the cards.
Michelle, 36, who describes herself as “a bit wacky, a bit different,” was paired with 41-year-old Kevin, who was hoping for his second chance at love after a previous appearance on the dating show. As a self-proclaimed “dog mom,” Michelle made it clear that any potential partner had to love dogs as much as she does, showing off photos of her two beloved pets, Hero and Hoshi.
Her ideal partner? Someone fun, spontaneous, and, most importantly, a dog lover. “If he’s allergic to dogs, I’m gone,” she declared. Meanwhile, Kevin, who was raised in Coolock, admitted to having a soft spot for accents and a good smile, but he also noted he could be picky about who he lets into his life.
As the pair made small talk, Michelle revealed a humorous mishap in Dublin, where she accidentally drove into a bus lane—an awkward moment shared with Kevin, who happens to be a bus driver. They quickly found common ground when discussing their dogs, with Kevin introducing his own Collie, Ollie, and sharing a touching story about his Yorkshire Terrier, Lucy, whom he rescued as a tiny puppy.
The conversation became more personal when Kevin complimented Michelle on her striking eyes, which left her flattered but a bit surprised. Despite the playful flirtation, Michelle, who has been single since a long-term relationship ended, admitted that she finds modern dating tough.
Kevin, who has three children and a grandson, emphasized his old-fashioned values, including a love for slow dancing and family life. Michelle, however, seemed taken aback by the news of his children, revealing that the idea of being with someone with kids was a major obstacle for her. Despite a strong connection, Michelle confessed that it was a deal-breaker for her.
Kevin, on the other hand, expressed disappointment but appreciated Michelle’s honesty, admitting that he would have liked to see her again. While the couple parted on good terms, it was clear that the sparks they shared were not enough to ignite a romantic relationship.
Sadly, while they enjoyed each other’s company, the relationship ultimately fizzled out. Michelle’s reluctance to embrace Kevin’s family dynamics made it clear that, despite their shared love for dogs, they wouldn’t be taking their connection any further.
The episode aired on February 6, 2025, as part of season 10, episode five, and is available for viewing on RTÉ Player.
