Dog Rescued from Freezing Waters in Suffolk Lake

by Doreen Miller

Suffolk Fire & Rescue, supported by the Marine Response Team, successfully rescued a dog from frigid waters at Sleepy Hole Lake on Monday afternoon.

The emergency call came in at 3:42 p.m. after a dog was found trapped between the ice and water, with only its head visible, according to a post from the fire department. The rescue operation took place in the 1500 block of Wooduck Road, where firefighters quickly mobilized.

Responders, including Battalion 2 and Ladder 11 teams, worked swiftly to reach the dog. A firefighter carefully broke through the thin ice surrounding the animal before safely pulling it from the water. The dog was then handed off to another firefighter, who carried it up the embankment to safety.

Fortunately, Suffolk Fire & Rescue confirmed the dog has been safely reunited with its owner.
