In Williams Lake, B.C., a remarkable story of survival and community resilience is unfolding as volunteers continue their tireless efforts to bring Bella, a beloved seven-year-old dog, home. Missing since November 2, 2024, Bella, a mix of Great Pyrenees and Komondor, was spooked by the sound of a backfiring car and ran off, setting off a challenging search in the rugged terrains around the area.
For over two weeks, Bella’s trail has gone cold, despite her remarkable ability to survive in freezing temperatures and harsh conditions. She has been seen in remote locations such as Fox Mountain, dairy fields, and areas near the Williams Lake Regional Airport. Other possible sightings have been reported in Dog Creek and downtown Williams Lake. Bella’s movements, while unpredictable, highlight her strong survival instincts.
Known for her shy nature, Bella was raised on a farm with minimal human interaction, making her wary of strangers. Her story has deeply touched the local community, with many dedicating time to help in the search. Volunteers have worked tirelessly, setting up feeding stations, monitoring trail cameras, and building humane traps. Drones have been deployed, and searchers have scoured both on foot and by vehicle.
“We’ve done so much, but we need more eyes out there,” one community supporter shared. “Bella is a survivor, but she needs to be home with her family. This is a community effort, and we hope to reach those who haven’t seen her story yet.”
Bella, with her distinctive white coat, Vancouver 2010 Olympics collar, and bright blue dog tag, remains easily identifiable. However, because of her skittish nature, those who spot her are urged not to approach her directly but to report the sighting immediately to the authorities.
In addition to the ongoing local search efforts, the community is expanding its reach to nearby areas, including Quesnel, where Bella lived prior to being adopted, in hopes of finding more clues about her whereabouts. Volunteers are asking ranchers, landowners, and residents in these areas to keep an eye out for the missing dog.
“This is not just about one dog,” said another supporter. “Bella represents the strength of a community coming together, and we believe that, with enough help, we can bring her home.”
If you have seen Bella or have any information about her whereabouts, you are encouraged to contact the search team at 250-303-2335. Every tip, no matter how small, could help bring Bella back to her family.
As the search continues, the hope remains strong. Bella’s owners, along with countless supporters, are committed to bringing this brave dog home, showing just how powerful community unity can be.
