A heartwarming moment unfolded in Cairns, Queensland, when a lively spaniel named Deji was reunited with his owners after spending over 30 days in quarantine.
Hannah Barker, who relocated from the United Kingdom to Australia, shared the touching footage with Storyful. In the video, Deji, a one-year-old dog, can hardly contain his excitement as he leaps and wiggles with joy when Barker arrives to collect him from quarantine.
“We first left Deji with Pets Abroad UK on February 3, and he made the long journey to Melbourne, Australia,” Barker explained. “He underwent the required 30-day quarantine period there before traveling to Cairns to finally join us.”
Under Australian quarantine regulations, pets from overseas must complete a health monitoring period to prevent the introduction of diseases that could affect local animals. This strict measure ensures Australia remains free from various animal diseases, as highlighted by the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
The quarantine period provides officials an opportunity to assess the animal’s health and address any potential disease concerns before it is allowed to enter the country.
Deji’s joyful reunion captured the hearts of many, demonstrating the deep bond between pets and their owners.
