PD Boris, a German Shepherd who served with Kent Police for five years, has retired after sustaining an injury during a recent arrest. The dog, known for his keen senses and athleticism, made significant contributions to law enforcement, including assisting in the capture of three wanted criminals during his final days on duty.
Boris’s last act of service involved a dangerous encounter with an offender, who injured him during an arrest. Despite the injury, the police dog maintained his hold on the suspect until human officers could step in to complete the arrest.
PC Nathan Southern, who worked with Boris for the past two years, described the dog as an “exceptional public servant.” Southern praised Boris’s remarkable sense of smell and agility, recalling a memorable case where Boris helped locate a victim’s mobile phone after a delivery van was stolen in Medway.
Throughout his career, Boris played a crucial role in a number of high-profile incidents. Notably, he helped capture a man accused of indecent exposure in Sheerness and tracked down a violent robbery and kidnapping suspect in Sittingbourne.
Although Boris’s retirement marks the end of an era, PC Southern assured the public that the absence of this skilled K9 would not leave Kent unprotected. “His younger colleagues are ready and eager to take on the responsibility of keeping the streets safe,” Southern emphasized.
Following his retirement, Boris will be transitioning to a more peaceful life, enjoying his days in a new home.
